U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (06/11/13)
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the number of job openings at the end of April (3.8 million) barely budged from March (3.9 million) and that the hires rate of 3.3% and the separations rate of 3.2% also held steady. The quits rate of 1.7%, however, rose for the private sector but was little changed for government jobs. Also unchanged was the layoffs and discharges rate of 1.2%. During the year-over-year period ended in April, there were 52 million hires and 50.2 million separations, with a net employment gain of 1.8 million.
