Get Ready for National Staffing Employee Week

National Staffing Employee Week is an annual celebration that honors the contributions of the millions of individuals employed by U.S. staffing agencies. This year’s event takes place Sept. 8–14. ASA member companies will host activities to honor their greatest asset: their temporary and contract employees. ASA Op-Ed: The Government May be Massively Undercounting Gig Workers

Noah Yosif, chief economist for ASA, contributed an op-ed article that was published by The Hill on Friday. The newspaper and website primarily focus on U.S. politics, policy, and government, and is a top read among members of Congress and their staff in Washington, DC.

In the article, Yosif notes that “recent findings from the Federal Reserve suggest that more than seven million workers could be missing from monthly employment numbers due to the blind spots in BLS surveys, such as the Current Employment Survey, which estimates nonfarm payroll gains, and the Current Population Survey, which estimates the unemployment rate.”

He also calls for updated and more accurate data, adding: “To keep pace with the realities of today’s labor market, the federal government must modernize its measurement of work itself.”
