Staffing Employment Rebounds in Third Quarter

U.S. staffing companies employed an average of 2.7 million temporary and contract workers per week in the third quarter of 2021, according to data released today by the American Staffing Association—up approximately 90,600 from the second quarter.

“The staffing industry is playing an increasingly important role in today’s labor market by providing talent sourcing expertise and workforce flexibility to employers in need of workers, and helping candidates find roles that are the right fit,” said Richard Wahlquist, ASA president and chief executive officer.

On a year-to-year basis, staffing jobs rose 15.2% in the third quarter of 2021 from the same period in 2020—which was still early in the economy’s recovery from the initial hit of the Covid-19 pandemic. Temporary and contract staffing sales totaled $36.1 billion in the third quarter, an increase of 21.8% from the third quarter of 2020.

Take Advantage of Vaccine Literacy Resources for Staffing Firms

As part of its continued effort to support staffing firms’ response to Covid-19, ASA has launched a Vaccine Literacy Resources for Staffing Firms web page. The site provides valuable downloads and links employers can use to engage and educate workers about Covid-19 vaccines. ASA partnered with the Health Action Alliance to share these free resources, including a quick-start guide, sample communications, vaccine FAQs, a social media tool kit, and more.

Research shows that businesses and employers are a trusted source of information and are well-suited to advance vaccine literacy efforts. The ASA site also links to National Safety Council resources, developed by NSC’s “SAFER: Safe Actions for Employee Returns” taskforce.

Visit the Vaccine Literacy Resources page today and check back regularly for updates—ASA will post new resources as they become available.
