Buyer Beware: Employee Health Plans Offering Big Tax Savings

ASA has published a new issue paper by noted industry benefits counsel Alden Bianchi on the most recent wave of employee health plans being offered to staffing firms that promise substantial employer tax savings. The paper “Buyer Beware: The Newest Wave of Hospital/Fixed Indemnity Programs Promising Payroll Tax Savings” explains the applicable rules and discusses why these plans could expose employers to significant liability risks under federal tax and other laws. Bianchi will discuss the issues covered in the paper during a session at the ASA Staffing Law Conference, which takes place next week—May 18–19 at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, DC.
