South Bend, IN Staffing Firm Announces Acquisition

South Bend, IN-based Peoplelink Staffing Solutions has acquired Elite Personnel Inc., headquartered in Pompton Plains, NJ. W. “Jay” Wilkinson, Peoplelink’s president and chief executive officer, says the acquisition “is yet another ‘perfect fit’ for the Peoplelink organization. Elite is in full growth mode and their operational model will complement the Peoplelink profit center operating model.” Wilkinson says the acquisition “will improve our footprint in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the U.S., and will provide for additional growth in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.”

Information Technology Staffing Firm MDT Technical to Manage Beacon Enterprise Solutions Group

MDT Labor LLC, which does business as MDT Technical, has entered into an asset purchase agreement including an assignment and assumption agreement with Beacon Enterprise Solutions Group Inc. Under the terms of the agreement, MDT Technical has assumed all right, title, and interest to the staffing contracts and service agreements of Beacon Solutions Group, effectively granting MDT Technical the right to operate Beacon Solutions Group’s business. MDT Technical and its affiliates comprise a $300 million staffing firm, including information technology staff augmentation and infrastructure services. MDT Technical intends to retain Beacon’s current employees and operate under the leadership of Michael Boyle, the senior vice president of MDT Technical.

Medical Staffing Network Announces Completion of the Acquisition of Pathway Medical Staffing

Pathway Medical Staffing LLC of Skillman, NJ, has been acquired by Medical Staffing Network, the nation’s biggest per diem nurse staffing company. Bob Bunker, chair and chief executive of MSN, says the acquisition of the privately held nurse care management staffing firm will expand the service offerings of MSN and its wholly owned subsidiary, Optimal Workforce Solutions LLC. “Our nation’s hospitals and health plans will now have access to a nationwide database of over 50,000 quality health care professionals including highly experienced nurse case managers,” he says.

CareerBuilder Acquires Economic Modeling Specialists Intl.

ASA corporate partner CareerBuilder announced it has acquired Economic Modeling Specialists Intl., an economic software firm that specializes in employment data and labor market analysis. EMSI collects and interprets large amounts of labor data, which is used in work force development and talent strategy.

Tropical Storm Isaac Boosts Jobless Claims

Applications for U.S. jobless benefits jumped by 15,000 to a seasonally adjusted 382,000 in the week ended Sept. 8, with about half the increase related to tropical storm Isaac, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. That’s the highest level of claims since mid-July. The government said about 9,000 claims stemmed from the storm that passed through the Gulf Coast in late August. Some people could not work because of storm damage, but they did not apply for benefits right away. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 370,000 last week.

Inland Empire Warehouse Workers Walk Off Job, Protest Conditions

Workers at a warehouse operated by NFI Industries walked off the job Wednesday to protest what they characterized as poor working conditions. NFI operates warehouses in Southern California for large retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The walkout is the latest conflict between workers at the network of warehouses and their employers. In January, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health issued citations for violations found at warehouses operated by National Distribution Centers and Tri State Staffing.
