Randstad Reports Third Quarter Growth

Randstad reported revenue of €4,363 million for the third quarter of 2013, down 1% from €4,397 million during the same period last year. The company reported net income of €84 million, up 22% from €69 million in the third quarter of 2012.

North American revenues totaled €925 million, down 3% from €1,002 million. North American gross profit was 2% above last year’s. Permanent placement fees grew by 6%. Staffing revenues were €2,648 million, down 5% from €2,733 million. Profitability in the U.S. staffing and in-house businesses continued to reach record levels, though revenue of the combined businesses fell. Overall gross profit for the segments grew by 4%. The administrative segment held up well, considering the low demand in banking and finance. Performance in the blue-collar segment was good. Revenue in information technology strengthened further while performance in the finance business remained weak.

Additionally, the company announced that Ben Noteboom will step down Feb. 28 and Jacques van den Broek will succeed him as chief executive officer and chairman of the executive board.

Hudson Global Reports 2013 Third Quarter Results

Hudson Global Inc. reported revenues of $163.6 million in the third quarter of 2013, down 12.9% from $187.9 million during last year’s third quarter. The company also reported a net loss of $5 million, down 13.1% from a net loss of $2.2 million in the third quarter of 2012. Hudson Americas reported revenue of $34.8 million, down 11% year-to-year from $39.1 million.

RCM Technologies Inc. Announces Third Quarter Results

RCM Technologies Inc. reported revenues of $41.3 million for the third quarter of 2013, up 18.6% from $34.8 million in the third quarter of 2012. Net income was $1.1 million, up 80.1% from $0.6 million in the same period last year.

Labor Forecast Predicts 8.2% Increase in Demand for Temporary Workers

Demand for temporary workers in the U.S. is expected to increase 8.2% on a seasonally adjusted basis for the 2013 fourth quarter, when compared with the same period in 2012, according to Greg Palmer, founder and managing director of human capital advisory firm G. Palmer & Associates. The forecast indicated a 6.4% increase in temporary help for the just-ended 2013 third quarter. Actual results came in at a 7.9% increase.

Jobless Claims in U.S. Decrease as California Clears Backlog

The number of people who applied for unemployment benefits fell during the week ended Oct. 26. Jobless claims dropped by 10,000 to 340,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted a drop to 338,000. The less-volatile four-week moving average of new jobless claims rose to 356,250 from 348,250. According to a DOL spokesperson, California said no claims last week represented applications from past weeks.

Share Your Expertise With Industry Peers
