U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (11/22/13)
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 3.9 million job openings at the end of September, on par with the previous month. There were 4.6 million hires and 4.4 million separations in September, with the 3.4% hires rate and 3.2% separations rate little changed from August.
Both the quits rate and layoffs and discharge rate basically held steady at 1.7% and 1.3%, respectively, in September. For the fiscal year ending Sep. 30, there were 52.7 million hires and 50.8 million separations, with a net employment gain of 1.9 million.
