The producer price index (PPI) increased 0.2% in January, up from a 0.1% increase in December, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Core prices, which exclude the cost of food, energy, and wholesaler and retailer markups, rose just 0.1%. The latest PPI numbers now include services and construction. Prior to January, the index included only goods.
