The producer-price index increased a seasonally adjusted 0.6% in April from March, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Not counting the volatile food and energy categories, prices rose 0.5% in April from a month earlier. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had forecast a 0.2% increase in both overall prices and in prices excluding food and energy.
