The Thomson Reuters and University of Michigan preliminary July reading on the overall index of consumer sentiment was 81.3, lower than both analysts’ expected reading of 83.0 and the final June reading of 82.5. The barometer of current economic conditions rose to 97.1 from 96.6, and the gauge of consumer expectations fell to 71.1 from 73.5. The one-year inflation expectation rose to 3.3% from 3.1% last month, and the five-to-10-year outlook dropped to 2.6% from 2.9%.
