The Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing purchasing managers index increased to 59.0 in October from 56.6 in September. Economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal had forecast an October reading of 56.0. Meanwhile, the employment index rose to 55.5 from 54.6.
“Manufacturing is firing on all cylinders” in the U.S., says Bradley Holcomb, who oversees the survey. “I think we will finish the year strong and set up well for next year.”
