The number of people applying for unemployment benefits in the week ended Nov. 1 fell by 10,000 to a three-week low of 278,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The 50 economists surveyed by Bloomberg had forecast claims of 285,000. The four-week moving average of new claims dropped by 2,250 to 279,000, the lowest level in more than 14 years.
