The number of people applying for unemployment benefits in the week ended Feb. 7 rose by 25,000 to 304,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had forecast claims of 287,000. The four-week average of new claims fell 3,250 to 289,750, the lowest level since mid-November.
