Consumers spent moderately in July as wages increased, signalling the presence of economic momentum. Personal spending increased 0.3% in July from a month earlier, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Personal income rose 0.4%. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had forecast 0.4% growth in both spending and income.
