Orders for durable goods rose 3.5% in November after a 0.7% drop in October, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted an increase of 2.0%. Demand is growing for homes and automobiles, which is benefitting manufacturers. The numbers were bolstered by a 21.8% increase in orders for nonmilitary aircraft.
