Heidrick & Struggles International Inc. reported consolidated net revenue of $122 million in the second quarter of 2013, marking a gain of 5.1% from $116.1 million during the same period last year. The company’s net income was $1.9 million, unchanged from the second quarter of 2012. In the Americas, the company reported net revenue of $72.8 million in the second quarter of 2013, up 11.4% from $65.3 million in the second quarter of 2012.

During the first half of 2013, the company reported consolidated net revenue of $225 million, up 1.1% from $222.6 million during the first six months of last year. Over the same period, net revenue in the Americas climbed 10.3%.

The Reserves Network, a staffing firm specializing in the office, industrial, professional, and technical markets, has acquired Summit Technical Services. Summit Technical provides contract staffing services for engineering, software, and professional design. Summit will retain its name and brand and will operate as a specialty group of TRN. This is TRN’s third acquisition in five years, and its first acquisition of a staffing firm with a presence in the New England and Mid-Atlantic states.

Thousands of fast-food workers from McDonald’s Corp., Wendy’s Co., and other eateries went on strike July 29 in New York City, Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, and several other cities to push for higher wages and the ability to unionize without retaliation. Workers from Burger King Worldwide Inc., Domino’s Pizza Inc., and Subway are expected to strike this week as well. Experts say the “occupy” movement has made these workers more aware of income inequality.
