More employers are saying they offer flexible work arrangements but such perks tend only to be offered to certain employees in certain situations. A recent study by the Sloan Center on Aging and Work at Boston College found that only 20% of respondents offer a variety of flexible options to most of their workers. Companies also are rolling back programs for new parents and workers with a sick relative, and few employees are being allowed to reduce their workloads. Employers fear that flexible arrangements will hurt productivity, and some managers don’t know how to oversee remote workers.
