ASA Staffing Index Hits 102.84

Staffing employment for the week of Sept. 8–14 increased to 102.84, according to the latest ASA Staffing Index results—the highest index value this year. Temporary and contract staffing employment increased 1.68% from the prior week, and 3.25% compared with the same week last year. That same week also will be used in the September monthly employment situation report that will be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Oct. 3.

Two Known as Dissenters Plan to Retire From Fed

Charles Plosser, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia since 2006, announced that he would retire in March. Richard Fisher, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas since 2005, is required to step down by the end of April.

Both men dissented at the U.S. Federal Reserve policy-making committee’s most recent meeting, arguing that the central bank is not retreating fast enough from its support program as the economy gains strength. The departures are unlikely to have a large influence on policy.
