Orders for durable goods declined overall in August from a month earlier, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Excluding defense goods, orders declined 19.0% in August after increasing 24.9% in July. New orders for nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft increased 0.6% in August, a hopeful sign for U.S. business expenditures.
