CDI Corp. Reports Fourth-Quarter and Full-Year 2014 Results

CDI Corp. reported revenue of $266.7 million for the fourth quarter of 2014, down 3.8% from $277.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2013, and $1.123 billion for all of fiscal 2014, up 3.2% from $1.088 billion in fiscal 2013. The company reported a net loss of $8.8 million for the fourth quarter, compared with net income of $2.4 million in the year-ago quarter, and net income of $2.1 million for the year, compared with net income of $12.9 million in fiscal 2013. The company recorded $18.2 million in impairment and restructuring-related charges for the quarter.

The company’s Global Engineering and Technology Solutions segment reported $80.5 million in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2014, down 1.7% from $81.8 in the fourth quarter of 2013. For the full year, GETS revenue rose 4.4% to $335.4 million. The staffing services segment reported revenue of $171.4 million for the 2014 fourth quarter, down 5.2% from $180.7 million in the 2013 fourth quarter, and $728.7 million for fiscal 2014, up 2.8% from $708.6 million in fiscal 2013. Its Management Recruiters International Inc. segment reported revenue of $14.8 million in the 2014 fourth quarter, up 1.8% from $14.6 million in the 2013 fourth quarter, and $58.9 million for fiscal 2014, up 1.6% from $58 million in fiscal 2013.

Command Center Reports 2014 Financial Results

Command Center Inc. reported revenue of $20.4 million for the fourth quarter of 2014, down 2% from $24.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2014. Revenue for the full year totaled $91.8 million, down 2% from $93.7 million in 2013.

Net income totaled $1.1 million in the fourth quarter, down 9% from $1.2 million in the year-ago quarter. For all of 2014, net income totaled $9.1 million, up from $2.9 million in 2013.

Grasshopper Staffing Is Acquired by Tomichi Creek Outfitters

Tomichi Creek Outfitters, a Sargents, CO-based development stage company that provides guided animal hunts, has acquired Grasshopper Staffing, a cannabis employment firm based in Pueblo, CO.

Private Businesses Added 212,000 Jobs in February

Business hiring was modest in February, according to an employment survey by Automatic Data Processing and Moody’s Analytics. Private payrolls rose by 212,000 jobs in February. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had forecast an increase of 215,000 new jobs. The January number was revised up to 250,000 from 213,000. Companies employing between one and 49 employees added 94,000 new employees in February. Medium-size businesses with payrolls of 50-499 employees hired 63,000 employees. Large firms with 500 or more employees hired 56,000 employees. Service-sector payrolls rose by 181,000 jobs last month. Manufacturing companies added 3,000 jobs, and construction firms added 31,000 jobs.

Online Labor Demand Increased 184,100 in February

Online advertised vacancies rose 184,100 to 5.5 million in February, according to the Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine Data Series. The January supply and demand rate stands at 1.70 unemployed for each advertised vacancy, with a total of 3.7 million more unemployed workers than the number of advertised vacancies. The number of unemployed was 9.0 million in January.

“Online labor demand has shown a very strong start in 2015, with demand increasing 334,500 across the first two months of the year,” says Gad Levanon, managing director, macroeconomic and labor market research. “These increases are a positive sign for continued growth in the labor markets.”

U.S. CEOs See an Improving Economy but Will Hold Steady on Hiring

Even though chief executives predict the economy will accelerate moderately this year, it is expected to perform below its potential, according to the Business Roundtable’s first-quarter survey of 120 executives. The survey estimates that 40% will increase hiring over the next six months, and 23% plan to lay off workers. They also predict a falling unemployment rate and increased wage growth. The respondents believe that gross domestic product will advance 2.8% this year, similar to the 2.9% forecast by economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal.
