Recognize Outstanding Women in the Industry—Applications Due Next Month

The ASA Women in Leadership Scholarship Program aims to raise the visibility of women in the staffing industry. Each year, a select number of emerging women leaders are chosen to receive scholarships that cover registration fees for Staffing World®, the ASA annual convention and expo (Oct. 3–5 in Charlotte, NC), as well as the THRIVE: Women in Leadership preconvention program (Oct. 2–3 in Charlotte).

The Women in Leadership Scholarship recipients join a supportive and celebratory community of past winners and other women leaders. You can hear from past winners and ask them about the application process next week during a networking call—it takes place Thursday, May 4, 1–2 p.m. Eastern time.

Scholarship applications are due May 22—get more information and submit your application at americanstaffing.net.

Get Free Staffing Employment and Sales Data—Participate in the ASA Quarterly Survey

Don’t miss your chance to get the staffing and recruiting data you need. The association’s quarterly Staffing Employment and Sales Survey for the first quarter of 2023 is now open. Participate in the survey and compare how your company is doing with similar-sized companies and firms within your industry sector.

After completing the survey, you will be able to access an exclusive online report archive, which includes benchmarks for the number of direct hire searches and permanent placements, sector-specific gross margin trends, and payroll and productivity metrics by company size. Participate by May 19 to get the staffing industry information you’re looking for. Register to take the survey at americanstaffing.net/quarterly-survey.

ASA Staffing Index: Staffing Employment Plateaus in April

Staffing employment rose slightly in the week of April 10–16, with the ASA Staffing Index increasing by 0.1% but holding at a rounded value of 97. Several staffing companies mentioned a holiday as a barrier preventing further growth. Staffing jobs were 6.8% below the same week last year.

The ASA Staffing Index four-week moving average nudged down from the prior week but held at a rounded value of 98, and temporary and contract staffing employment for the four weeks ending April 16 was 7.1% lower than the same period in 2022.

New starts in the 15th week of the year increased by 2.5% from the prior week. Four in 10 staffing companies (40%) reported week-to-week gains in new assignments.

“Staffing employment has softened since the beginning of February, but current levels still remain above those seen in 2021,” said Tim Hulley, ASA assistant director of research.

This week will be used in the April monthly employment situation report scheduled to be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics May 5.
