ASA congratulates the eight recipients of the association’s prestigious Women in Leadership scholarship, announced today. Established in 2020, the Women in Leadership scholarship program honors rising stars who show exemplary professional growth potential and a commitment to a career in the staffing and recruiting industry. This year, the scholarship program fielded the largest number of applications in its history. The scholarship covers the registration fees for recipients to attend THRIVE Live (Oct. 21–22 in Nashville, TN) and Staffing World^®, the ASA annual convention and expo (Oct. 22–24 in Nashville).

“This year’s Women in Leadership scholarship recipients represent the future of our industry, showcasing remarkable potential and unwavering commitment to advancing their careers in staffing,” said Brenna Barnett, chair of the Women in Leadership scholarship program taskforce. “The Women in Leadership scholarship program is designed to support and empower these talented women, providing them with invaluable opportunities to network, learn, and grow. In 2023 and 2024, notable donations were received in memory of Marietta Vickrey and Loretta Penn—two women who inspired many staffing industry leaders. Staffing employment improved during the week of July 8–14, with the ASA Staffing Index increasing by 5.2% to reach a rounded value of 88. The week before Independence Day, the index was at a rounded value of 90. Staffing jobs were down 12.7% compared with the same week last year. Many staffing companies still listed the July Fourth holiday as a barrier that prevented further growth.

New starts saw a very large increase in the 28th week of the year—leaping by 30.0% from the prior week.  Six in 10 staffing companies (60%) reported gains in new assignments week-to-week—well above the average of 42% per week so far this year.

This week, containing the 14th day of the month, will be used in the July monthly employment situation report scheduled to be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Aug. 2.
