September Staffing Up 5.1% From a Year Ago

Staffing employment in September is up 5.1% from one year ago, according to the ASA Staffing Index.

The index value for the month of September is 95, indicating that staffing employment is approximately 2.4% higher than that reported for August.

Holiday Hiring Will Exceed Last Year, Analyst Says

Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. estimates that 700,000 temporary holiday workers will be hired this year by major retailers. While this marks a gain from the 660,000 seasonal workers hired in 2011, it remains below the more than 722,000 hired on average for the prerecession period of 2004-07.

Patients Added to Hepatitis C Class Action Suit

The New Hampshire class-action lawsuit against Exeter Hospital had grown to 169 people as of Sept. 21. Thus far 32 people have contracted hepatitis C at the hospital. Former temporary medical technician David Kwiatkowski, the man who allegedly caused the hepatitis C outbreak, is scheduled to appear in court in October.
