Michael Page International—Q2 and First Half 2013 Update

Michael Page International News Release (07/16/2013)

Michael Page International reported gross profits of £135.2 million in the second quarter of 2013, down 2% from £138 million during the same period in 2012. Gross profits rose 4% from £28.8 million to £30 million for temporary recruitment but decreased 4% from £109.2 million to £105.2 million for permanent recruitment over the same time span. Its gross profits for the Americas were £20.7 million in the second quarter, up 11% from £18.7 million the prior year.

The company reported gross profits of £262 million for the first half of 2013, compared with £273.9 million in the first half of 2012. Gross profits jumped slightly from £58.2 million to £58.9 million for temporary recruitment but fell from £215.7 million to £203.1 million for permanent recruitment. Its gross profits for the Americas totaled £39.1 million for the first half of 2013, up from £37.4 million in the first half of 2012.

Corporate Resource Services Applies for Listing on NASDAQ Exchange

Staffing firm Corporate Resource Services Inc. has submitted an application for listing on the NASDAQ Capital Market. The company’s listing application is subject to review and approval by NASDAQ’s listing qualifications department for compliance with the market’s standards.

Heidrick CEO Steps Down

Heidrick & Struggles International chief executive officer L. Kevin Kelly has stepped down and will be replaced on an interim basis while a board search committee seeks a successor. H&S also has decided to abandon plans to sell the company.

Consumers Dial Back on Their Spending

Consumers spent less in June, according to a new government report, purchasing more automobiles but reducing their expenditures on other nonessentials, suggesting the economy has hit a weak patch. Retail sales grew just 0.4% last month, as consumers spent less on restaurant meals and gardening equipment. Excluding volatile auto and gasoline purchases, spending actually fell 0.1%, the first decline in a year.

Industrial Production in U.S. Rises by Most in Four Months

Industrial production rose in June, the biggest increase in four months, according to the U.S. Federal Reserve. The gain mirrors a survey of economists by Bloomberg and suggests manufacturing is improving.
