Adecco Reports Q4 and FY 2013 Results

Adecco Group News Release (03/12/14)

Adecco Group reported revenues of €4.98 billion for the fourth quarter of 2013, down 1.0% from €5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2012 (up 4% in constant currency). Currency fluctuations had a negative effect on revenues of approximately 5% in the quarter. Revenues were €19.5 billion for fiscal 2013, down 5.0% from €20.5 billion the prior year (down 2% in constant currency). Net income totaled €174 million for the quarter, up 398.0% from €35 million, and €558 million for the full year, up 48.0% from €378 million.

In North America, fourth quarter revenues were €928 million, down 2.0% from €947 million (up 3% in constant currency). General staffing revenues grew 4%, with 14% growth in industrial and a decline in office. Professional staffing revenues grew by 2.0%, led by information technology, which was up 5% (all in constant currency). Permanent placement revenues were up 17% in constant currency.

Job Openings and Labor Turnover Little Changed in January

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (03/11/14)

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that at the end of January, job openings totaled four million, the hires rate was 3.3%, and the separations rate was 3.2%, all of which were little changed from December. There were 4.5 million hires and 4.5 million separations in January, essentially unchanged from December for total private and government.

The quits rate was 1.7% for total nonfarm, 1.9% for total private, and 0.6% for government, while the layoffs and discharges rate was 1.3% for total nonfarm, 1.4% for total private, and 0.5% for government. During the year-to-year period, there were 54.3 million hires and 52.1 million separations, for a net employment gain of 2.2 million.
