RCM Technologies Inc. Announces Second-Quarter Results

RCM Technologies Inc. reported revenues of $49.5 million for the second quarter of 2014, up 16.8% from $42.4 million in the second quarter of 2013. Net income totaled $2.0 million for the second quarter, up 33% from $1.5 million a year ago.

Michael Page International Reports Half-Year Results

Michael Page International PLC reported revenue of £512.2 million for the first half of 2014, up 1.8% (8.3% in constant currency) from £503.2 million in the first half of 2013. The company reported a gross profit of £263.7 million, up 0.7% (7.9% in constant currency) from £261.9 million in the year-ago period.

Revenue for the Americas totaled £37.3 million for the first half of 2014, down 4.5% (up 11.8% in constant currency) from £39.1 million in the first half of 2013. Revenue from temporary placements totaled £60.2 million, up 1.5% (6.4% in constant currency) from £59.3 million, while revenue from permanent placements totaled £203.5 million, up 0.4% (8.3% in constant currency) from £202.6 million.

CDI Corp. Names Scott Freidheim as Chief Executive Officer

The CDI Corp. board of directors has named Scott J. Freidheim as the company’s next chief executive officer, effective Sept. 15. Freidheim, 49, joins CDI with more than 20 years of high-level experience across a range of industries. Freidheim most recently served as vice chairman, post acquisition management (Europe), at Investcorp International.

Job Openings Hit 13-Year High

There were 4.7 million job openings on the last business day of June, up from 4.6 million in May, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, the highest number of job openings since February 2001. The number of hires rose to 4.8 million from 4.7 million in May, while the quits rate rose to 2.53 million, up from 2.49 million.

TaskRabbit Chief Aims to Recast Freelance Work

TaskRabbit founder and chief executive officer Leah Busque is advocating that peer-to-peer companies do more to protect employees. To that end, TaskRabbit has developed a portal that links its network of independent contractors to discounts for health care, cellphones, and tools they use to perform tasks. It has also implemented a wage floor of $11.20 per hour, which Busque says is “the highest minimum wage in the country.”

AirTasker Looks to Adopt Disgruntled Rabbits From TaskRabbit

The Australian start-up AirTasker is hoping to recruit TaskRabbit users frustrated by the service’s recent redesign as AirTasker expands into the U.S. AirTasker says it has been inundated with unhappy TaskRabbit users. AirTasker provides an open marketplace for job posters and people looking for work, with AirTasker taking a 15% commission. The company has more than 130,000 workers.
