Staffing Employment Rises in June

Staffing employment for the week of June 8–14 rose 2.5% from the prior week, increasing to a value of 67 and rebounding above the Great Recession trough of 66, according to the ASA Staffing Index. Although the index has climbed for the past seven consecutive weeks, staffing jobs were down 29.6% from the same week last year—the largest year-to-year gap for the comparative week since the inception of the index in 2006.

The ASA Staffing Index four-week moving average expanded to a value of 64. Temporary and contract staffing employment for the period ending June 14 was 31.6% lower than the comparative weeks in 2019.

This week, containing the 12th day of the month, will be used in the June monthly employment situation report that will be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics July 2.
