Illinois Issues Initial Guidance Under New Nurse Staffing Law

The Illinois Department of Labor published guidance on Friday on the recently enacted amendments to the state’s Nurse Agency Licensing Act. The guidance is generally effective July 1, but compliance with certain provisions must await further guidance. ASA and a coalition of nurse staffing agencies lobbied successfully to remove onerous rate cap provisions from the new law, but new “transparency” rules were enacted requiring agencies to provide health care facilities with more detailed information regarding the cost of the agencies’ services. ASA and the coalition have been working with the department in developing the guidance, which remain a work in progress.
