Stricter IRS Enforcement of ACA Rules Means Employers Should Rethink Their Compliance Efforts

In the past several years, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service has taken an increasingly close look at the annual employer reports required by the Affordable Care Act to determine employer compliance with the ACA’s “pay or play” rules. Until recently, reporting discrepancies tended to be fairly easy to resolve. Beginning with the 2020 reporting year, however, the effort required to respond to IRS inquiries has steadily increased to the point where employers need to rethink their compliance efforts. But there are practical steps staffing firms can take to help comply with the ACA employer rules in light of the growing IRS scrutiny.
