U.S. staffing companies employed an average of just under two million temporary and contract workers per week in the third quarter of 2025—an increase of 6,400 workers from the second quarter—according to the American Staffing Association’s quarterly Staffing Employment and Sales Survey. While staffing employment edged up 0.3% from the second quarter, staffing sales declined 1.3% during the same period and were down 8.5% from the third quarter of 2024, a slight deterioration from the 8.0% year-to-year decline recorded in the previous quarter.
