Guidance on Employer Notice Requirement That Takes Effect Oct. 1

The Affordable Care Act requires employers to provide their employees with written notice of any employer health insurance coverage they offer and of the availability of coverage through public health insurance exchanges. The effective date of the notice requirement is Oct. 1, 2013. ASA has published an issue paper that explains the requirement and discusses how staffing firms can comply.

The notice requirement applies to all employers that are subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act, which includes the vast majority of staffing firms. ASA members can access the issue paper at americanstaffing.net.

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index for the U.S. Increases

Conference Board News Release (08/22/13)

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index for the U.S. increased 0.6% in July to 96.0, following no change in June. “The improvement in the LEI, and pickup in the six-month growth rate, suggest better economic and job growth in the second half of 2013. However, the biggest uncertainties remain the pace of business spending and the impact of slower global growth on U.S. exports,” says Ken Goldstein, economist at the Conference Board.

The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index for the U.S. increased 0.2% in July to 106.3, following a 0.1% increase in June. The Conference Board Lagging Economic Index declined 0.2% in July to 118.2, following a 0.2% increase in June.

Time’s Almost Up—Participate in the ASA Staffing Employment and Sales Survey

Share your firm’s data with ASA so you can get the staffing industry information you’re looking for. Participate in the association’s quarterly Staffing Employment and Sales Survey by Aug. 26. Staffing firms that complete the survey receive an exclusive report on the results, which includes temporary and contract staffing sales and gross margin data by sector.

The data collected by this survey are essential to the association’s legal and legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of the staffing industry. Register to take the survey or view a PDF version of the questionnaire at americanstaffing.net. This survey is conducted by ASA research partner Inavero, and there are no fees to participate.
