Looking for real-time data on staffing employment? The ASA Staffing Index reports weekly changes in the number of people employed in temporary and contract work, now including data on staffing starts (new assignments). All staffing firms with U.S. operations are invited to participate in the ASA Staffing Index survey. Every Tuesday, participants receive an email with the results of the weekly survey, including figures by company size, and access to historical data and new dynamic charts. These data, which are not available anywhere else, allow staffing firms to compare how their business is doing on a weekly basis relative to similarly sized firms in the industry. There are no fees to participate in the five-question survey.

In the most recent edition of the WEBO (the final WEBO of 2024), ASA analysts looked at how the staffing industry is poised to address clients’ staffing needs in the year ahead. Employers still recognize the value added by temporary workers and staffing companies, and but were simply hamstrung by suboptimal labor costs and economic conditions have been showing signs of improvement. ASA chief economist Noah Yosif believes the industry has the potential to adapt and prosper despite future challenges, having undertaken many of the critical steps required today to address the staffing needs of tomorrow.
